GREAT NIGHT

OUT

Each year the social club at Queen of Martyrs holds a charity drive culminating in an evening of entertainment and a Grand Raffle.

2 Years ago our group benefitted to the tune of £2000 as a result of their hard work and generosity.

This years event was on behalf of the Breast Cancer appeal and as usual was very well organised and given the present financial plight of us all , was well attended.

The raffle was well stocked and we didn't let our reputation slip as we picked up our share of the prizes.

We had no luck on the Bingo or Chase the Ace though.

There were 2 very good artists to keep us entertained and the usual friendliness of the club members to welcome us.

 THE WIRRALL SHOW

Well what a show it turned out to be. The weather forecast was not at all good for the whole week-end especially the Saturday which was set to be windy with torrential rain all day. However despite a brisk breeze Tony, Hilary and Kathy managed to wrestle the awning to the caravan into submission and we managed to set most of the stall up and we were joined by Ken and Mavis Davies, Eddie Shaw and Lorna Brown and then we were up and running. The sun shone brightly and the public started chancing their luck.

The day went very well ,we had quite a few enquiries and the weather was good until about 6 pm when the rain started and carried on through the night.

Sunday dawned bright and sunny and thankfully this carried on all day. The three musketeers ( Tony, Hilary and Kathy) were joined by Frank and Jacqui Hughes, Lis Lane and finally Eddie who took 11/2 hours to get to us (there's dedication)

We had an excellent day and made a magnificent total of £761-07 over the 2 days (now where did that 7 pence come from?). This is double the amount we raised last year so it looks as if the credit crunch has not hit Tombolas yet and all the hard work was worth it.

We will be sending £652-23 down to Head Office in Bristol. This is the amount after we have paid out for the site, raffle tickets etc .A big thank you must go to everyone who helped make the stall such a success whether by donating prizes, ticketing up or helping out on the stall. As we only had a few prizes left over and we are already thinking about next year we are going to starting collecting again in the next couple of months, so if you are having a sort out please remember us.
